Throughout the game, SpongeBob has to retrieve lots of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's gadgets and use them to his advantage to defeat the Dirty Bubble and other villains such as Man Ray, the Jumbo Shrimp, the Sinister Slug, and the Atomic Flounder, all over the course of "Arcs," each of which has a different villain.

The Dirty Bubble gets split up into multiple miniature Dirty Bubbles when SpongeBob puts Mermaid Man's clothes in the washing machine.
