Plot
At Goo Lagoon, SpongeBob and Patrick are enjoying the sun and the waves. When SpongeBob remarks on how cool Larry the Lifeguard is. Patrick does not agree. SpongeBob then says that he is just as cool as Larry, and "if I'm not, let me be struck by - (thunder crashes) - a flying ice cream truck! (Shadow falls on him) AND LIVE!" Larry helps him up when the truck falls on him and notices ice cream on his nose. Thinking that it is sunscreen, he offers SpongeBob to help him with his lifeguard duties. Just when Larry is about to leave for a tanning booth, he hears that someone is drowning. He saves him, and then leaves SpongeBob alone. There is however only one problem...he cannot swim. (He lives underwater!)
SpongeBob is terrified that everyone is going to drown and makes everyone get out of the water with ice cream. He binds them with Police tape and settles down to relax. Patrick, hearing the ice cream announcement too late, rushes out into the water, gets butt cramps and immediately sinks. SpongeBob must then save him but when he finally gets out there (using a boat mobile he borrowed from the parking lot), Patrick destroys it and they both sink. Larry then comes back and "saves" them from the ankle deep water. At the end of the episode, he is teaching the two boys to swim.
Trivia/Goofs
- Patrick stared at the sun for about a minute before his eyes start to "fry". This may indicate that Patrick's brain is so slow it even affects his reflexes.
- Although the fish in Goo Lagoon fear sharks, they themselves are made up of a minority of sharks.
- The ukulele instrument was once again played.
- The water in Goo Lagoon is actually a goo-like substance that appears to be water due to its compressed freezing point.
- This is the first episode that SpongeBob and Larry appear, without Sandy.
- This is the first episode in which Larry had been the Goo Lagoon lifeguard. In Ripped Pants, Walking Small, and Bubble Buddy, another person was the lifeguard.
- The place where Larry The Lobster lifts weights is called Mussel Beach.
- When Larry lifts the board with the people on it, you will notice two fish fall off face first.
- Old Man Jenkins reappears after Larry told them to leave.
- When SpongeBob raises his arms to call the beach-goers to get some ice cream, if you watch very closely, you'll see, even though he's saying he's giving ice cream to everyone, he never lowers his arms.
- It is impossible for SpongeBob and Patrick to drown because they are already underwater.
- Also it's impossible for them to drown because the lagoon is very shallow.
- When Spongebob tries to save Patrick from drowning, he sucks up the Lagoon with a straw. All the "water" is inside Spongebob including Patrick. How can this be? The straw was too skinny and narrow to suck up Patrick through it.
- When Patrick comes out of the bathroom, there is no toilet paper on his foot. But when he comes from the right side, it's there without him going in the bathroom. And when he goes to the "Do Not Cross" tape, it's gone. Also, it's a way to tell how stupid Patrick is because he thinks Do Not Cross reads Ice Cream.
