Running gags made from, or about, specific characters:
SpongeBob
- Changes the shape of his body often.
- Every season, his voice changes.
- Eats Gary's food.
- Changes his Krusty Krab working routine every time he is seen at the Krusty Krab. Example using his spatula as a key to open his butt which contains produce.
Patrick
- Blows food into Squidward's face.
- Overestimates SpongeBob's abilities, such as lowering the amount of time SpongeBob has to get King Neptune's crown in the movie.
- Gets SpongeBob in trouble by convincing him to do something he is not supposed to do.
- Eats everything, including things not supposed to be eaten.
- Mentioning Ice Cream.
- Acting or speaking intelligently out of nowhere.
- Saying "Who are you people!!!".
- Unintentionally giving SpongeBob an idea and then when being asked by SpongeBob "say that again Patrick" saying something else that is irrelevant.
- Patrick mentioning food and drinks.
Squidward
- Something bad happens to him, such as getting lost or injured.
- Explodes when falling off a cliff.
- Made fun of about his nose.
- Plays clarinet so badly, the noise is often mistaken for something else.
Sandy
- Her home place (Texas) being made fun of.
Pearl
- Gets embarrassed by something every time she appears.
Plankton
- Gets squashed by someone bigger than him.
- Fails to steal the Krabby Patty Formula.
- Says "ouch" when thrown out of the Krusty Krab and across the street.
- Commonly gets teased at because he is also known as Sheldon.
Mr. Krabs
- Makes remarks on money or prices of the Krusty Krab's food.
- Loses his customers.
- Parts of him come off, such as his arms.
- His eyes sometimes either turn the pupils into dollar signs or turn into blocks of silver or gold
- Turning down something else that is much more important than money for money.
Karen
- Putting down Plankton's evil schemes to steal the Krabby Patty formula
- Karen suggesting a plan to Plankton but he dosn't listen and comes up with a plan which means the same thing.
Mrs. Puff
- Always inflates her size after SpongeBob fails his driver's lesson
- Is sent to jail because of SpongeBob causing destruction while driving

- Barnacle Boy being treated like a child.
- Mermaid Man overreacting when someone says the word "evil".

- Friend or Foe?: Mr. Krabs being called Rag Boy.
- Something Smells: people or things running away when SpongeBob or Patrick speak.

- I'm Your Biggest Fanatic: Kevin getting stung by a jellyfish.
- Jellyfishing: Someone being stung by a jellyfish in multiple ways.
- Sleepy Time: SpongeBob ruining a dream.

- Potty the Parrot ends up losing his body and only his head remains.
- Patchy the Pirate getting injured.
- Patchy the Pirate's eyepatch switching eyes.

- A riot being thrown when a group of people are angry at someone or something.
- The town going up in flames when something affects the entire town, such as a "monster" or Mad Snail Disease.

- A ton of police, cars and/or officers, chasing someone who broke the law no matter how small the law is.
