Plot

SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally anger the Flying Dutchman by riding a lawn mower through his graveyard and shavng his beard. With firey anger, Flying Dutchman curses them – and turns them into ghosts! The Flying Dutchman tells them that the curse wil be broken when his beard grows back... in 1,000 years! SpongeBob and Patrick decide to go with their life as normal as ghosts. However, they have disadvantages. First, they can't scare Squidward (for no apparent reason). Second, SpongeBob can't sleep on his house's top floor. Third, Patrick can see through his eyelids, making him wide awake, and finally, SpongeBob is unable to cook Krabby Patties at the Krusty Krab. Soon, they turn to the Flying Dutchman begging to become normal again, but he says that if they help him prepare for his date with a beard, the curse will be broken in a few months. After several attempts, SpongeBob poses as the Flying Dutchman's beard. Several months later, SpongeBob and Patrick return to normal, and the Flying Dutchman's beard is back. The Flying Dutchman comes to SpongeBob and Patrick, saying his girlfriend wants to be married and he ain't the marrying type. At the end of the episode, the Flying Dutchman's girlfriend is seen as he runs away from her.

Trivia/Goofs

• It was shown during a marathon on Nickelodeon called Shriek Week.
• In Sun Bleached, Squidward was afraid of SpongeBob because he thought he was a ghost and that he thinks he was going to haunt him. However, in this episode, he was not afraid and sprayed him and Patrick.
• In Shanghaied, the Dutchman could have turned them into ghosts to be scary like him. However, they would still not be scary like in this episode.
• This is the second time SpongeBob and Patrick were ghosts. The first time was Pranks a Lot, although they weren't really ghosts, they were just invisible because of the Invisible Spray.
• In the original airing, it was rated TV-Y7. However, when Scaredy Pants was shown as the second segment, it was rated TV-Y, the original rating of the show.
• Surprisingly, Squidward's backyard is surrounded by a fence, a grass area, and a shed. In other episodes, it isn't.
• This is the fourth episode not to feature the Flying Dutchman's ghost ship. The first was Born Again Krabs, the second was Money Talks and the third was SpongeBob SquarePants vs. The Big One.
• In this episode the green goo that came from SpongeBob and Patrick was ectoplasm which is a reference to Danny Phantom because in the show ectoplasm is green.
• This is the third Episode to feature a lawn mower. The first was Life of Crime and the second was in the Episode BlackJack.
• In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick call Squidward Old Man Squidward.
• In this episode.SpongeBob kills Spat by snapping it's neck.In All That Glitters,SpongeBob broke Spat and later he was still alive and fixed.
• How come SpongeBob and Patrick do not know what a lawnmower is if they have seen one in previous episodes. It's possible this takes place before Life of Crime and Blackjack.
