Plot

Pearl was dreaming about her 16 birthday party, she was having a great time and then while she was about to jump, she fell out of bed and landed on the first floor. Pearl then asks her father, Mr. Krabs what day it is tomorrow. Mr. Krabs does not have a clue, Pearl was angry; her own father does not know her birthday. Pearl then remembers that she has had 15 horrible birthday parties. Mr. Krabs then was forced by Pearl to give her the best birthday ever, or else her high school reputation will collapse, she will have to drop out, she will not go off to college, she will never leave home, and Mr. Krabs will have to support her for the rest of her life. Mr. Krabs does not want that to happen. While he works on the party, SpongeBob is assigned the task of figuring out what Pearl would like for a present. Mr. Krabs then gives him his credit card, so that if something Pearl wants should be bought, it can be bought with any credit card. So SpongeBob trails Pearl and her friends through the Bikini Bottom Mall and takes note of everything she thinks is "Coral" (cool). Pearl seems to think many things are coral and SpongeBob buys all of them, including a boatmobile. The once Pearl arrives at her party she is horrified to find that her dad's miserly ways have won out again. What was supposed to be the most fun and fabulous event ended up cheap and lame. It looks like Pearl's birthday will go down in history as the worst one ever, until SpongeBob shows up with a truck-load of presents. SpongeBob even invited her favorite band, The Boys Who Cry. Pearl got everything she ever wanted on her 16th. SpongeBob then showed Mr. Krabs his credit card bill, which is expensive.

Trivia/Goofs

  • How would Pearl's friend know that she had had 16 lame birthday parties in a row, because she was not at Pearl's other birthday party, like in episode: Squeaky Boots.
  • Pearl told her friends about her party tomorrow. Later, that same day, they celebrated her birthday.
  • When Pearl is gossiping about other teens, SpongeBob jots down "Angela likes Brad" (two names Pearl mentioned). This is a reference to the Angela and Brad Taylor relationship
  • Mr. Krabs must have over one million dollars on his credit card, which indicates that he is a millionaire because:
    • The Boys Who Cry band charges one million dollars just to show up.
    • SpongeBob spent $2,201.95 while shopping for five of Pearl's presents.
    • Also, According in episode: Clams, Mr. Krabs had received his 1 millionth dollar.
  • "Coral" is said again in this episode.
  • On many websites, Whale of a Birthday is considered the worst episode ever, along with Karate Island. In TV.com it had many bad reviews.
